Internship Program at Glendale Memorial Hospital
In October of 2021, we piloted a new yearlong internship program for underrepresented college and high school students in our community. The internship provides students with a broad exposure to healthcare through their clinical rotations in various departments in the hospital and out-patient settings. Students shadow and observe the various fields and professions that collaborate together to provide patient care.
In just two years, 50 students have already graduated from the internship program. We are extremely fortunate to be a part of their journey. By encouraging, supporting, and inspiring the next generation of diverse healthcare professionals, we will increase access to care for diverse community members in the years to come. We see this not only as an opportunity to embrace our core value of Inclusion, but also supporting health equity for the long haul.
Our next step is to enhance our internship alumni network, and to develop a scholarship fund for college and high school intern alumni who may need financial assistance for application fees and test prep courses in order to continue to support their health care professions journey. At this time, we are currently seeking support for this alumni scholarship fund.
